What to Expect from a Photo Session

Not all of us have had great experiences with photography in the past.  Some are nervous being in front of the camera.  Others might be put off by the cost, or they're afraid they won't like the results.  My goal at David Rothermel Photography is to allay those fears and help you relax so we get the best possible result.  Here's what to expect:

1. When you look at my website, there is an "About" page that will give you some idea what I and my business is about.  You can reach out via email quickly and easily using the contact form on the "About" page.

2. I will receive your message very soon after you send it, and I will usually respond via email within 24 hours, and ask when you can be available for a call.  I take my business personally, and want to meet you, discuss what you have in mind, and answer any initial questions you might have.  I believe the best way to do that is over the phone.

3.  Once we discuss what you're interested in, I might suggest we meet in person to plan your session in detail.  Locations, what to wear, and other details might best be covered in person, especially for larger family groups, events like a party, or a wedding.

I'll give you the price up front.  My pricing is broken down into two parts:

The session fee covers my preparation, travel within 25 miles, equipment setup and take down, and the photography itself.  It also includes proofing and editing, and web-size digital images that can be downloaded from my website.

Many people also want traditional paper prints, metal prints, or canvases they can display in their homes or offices.  I will provide pricing up front showing what these options will cost.  When you decide what you want, I will order it, have it shipped to my office, review it for quality, and hand-deliver it to you.

4. We will probably reserve two dates: our planned session date, and a rain date.  This makes it easier to flex in the event of inclement weather because we won't have to scramble to make up the session.  There will be a $100 deposit due to reserve the dates, and it will count toward the session fee.

5. The day of the shoot will be relaxed and comfortable.  We'll start with some small talk, and we'll spend some time getting better acquainted.  We'll discuss any concerns you might have and work to settle any nervousness.  The camera won't even come out until you've had time to relax and get comfortable with the environment.  Of course, if you're an old pro, we can shoot as soon as you are ready.

6. We will work at an easy, comfortable pace, and take as many breaks as you'd like.  I will probably have water available in case you are thirsty.  There's no rush to finish, and if it takes a little longer to get what we want, I'm more than happy to stay.

7.  At the end, I'll probably ask if there are any shots you want that I didn't think to take.  This would be the ideal time to bring up any special images that you might not have thought about previously.  My highest priority is your satisfaction, and I want to make sure we don't overlook any pictures you might want.

8. The balance of the session fee is due the day we shoot.  I will have the proofs posted on my website within two weeks.  You will be able to go in and view them, and mark your favorites for final editing.  This would also be the time for you to order prints or other items you would like.  It's as easy as sending me an email telling me what you want.

9.  Once the editing is finished, I will order the prints or other items.  When they come in, we'll set up a time for me to deliver them.  I will also then open up the gallery for downloads.  The gallery will be password protected, but you can share the password with friends and family if you'd like.

10. Last, but not least, I'll stop by and deliver your items and personally thank you for your business.  We may exchange social media info so we can keep up with what's happening.  I want to become your family photographer, and you can reach out for anything you need.
